Things to do in Autumn in Korea

Autumn in Korea means changing leaves, Thanksgiving, and Kimchi-making. Here are some ideas about what to do and where to go during autumn in Korea!

PLACES TO GO

First of all, there are lots of places to see the changing leaves. Here are 4 places to see the autumn leaves in Korea. Also, the Autumn leaves in Nami Island are Instagram Heaven.

For a day trip from Seoul before it gets too cold, how about Walking Gyejoksan Red Clay Mountain Trail Barefoot? The autumn leaves are fantastic there too.

Cyclists can hire bikes and go Cycling in Yangpyeoung, Gyeonggi-do

If you’re into walking with cultural stuff to look at, how about visiting the Tomb of King Sejong the Great in Yeoju

Foodies check out Sorae Port fish market in Incheon.

For an overnight trip, Andong has a picturesque village with hanok houses.  What’s it like staying at a traditional Korean house?  Andong Hahoe Hanok Village

I’m a fan of hot springs. There are some in Korea, and the jimjilbang saunas are fun – but going to a public bath for the first time can be intimidating. And there are faux pas lurking around every corner. Find out how to deal with signs at the baths, feet and slippers, what to wear and when to wear it, bathing rules, and towels.

CHUSEOK THANKSGIVING

It’s Thanksgiving time and my parents-in-law grow veg including sesame and perilla which are harvested in autumn. See What’s it like on a Korean vegetable farm in autumn?

What are the essential dishes at Chuseok?

What presents do people give at Chuseok Thanksgiving?

In OCTOBER get ready for Korean Halloween Muffins.

NOVEMBER is kimchi-making season. I learned How to Make Kimchi with my parents-in-law. And every November there’s the Seoul Kimchi Festival: Giving to Charity. There’s so much to learn about kimchi. Here are 5 things I learned about kimchi at the Kimchi Museum.

And while we’re talking about kimchi, here’s a KOREAN IDIOM about kimchi – don’t drink the kimchi soup before being offered rice cake Who doesn’t enjoy an idiom!

Enjoy the autumn weather!
