Life in Seoul Pictures: Dongguk University escalator

There are 3 entrances to Dongguk University in Seoul and this is one of them: the Hyewha gate. I know it’s a bit of a hill, but really? Is an escalator strictly necessary for young, energetic university students?? I heard it was put in after students complained they were getting tired climbing the stairs…
